The “X-Men” franchise is on its last wings these days, so Jon and Will are here to discuss Dark Phoenix, Fox’s last breath of fire before Disney bought the rights to these characters. We also discuss the new comedy Late Night starring Mindy Kaling and Emma Thompson, The Secret Life of Pets 2 from Illumination, and Joanna Hogg’s latest film The Souvenir from A24.

    I didn’t see any of these movies. June has been such a bust for film, with the exception of Netflix/Amazon/HBO releases. Caught When They See Us and Always Be My Maybe, both were excellent!

    I saw LATE NIGHT here in NY and it was a delight! I think I found it funnier than you guys, but I totally agree it would have worked much better as a show. Only problem with that is that Emma Thompson probably wouldn’t have done it.

    I definitely disagree with you guys this time around on Dark Phoenix! It’s certainly not among the better X-Men films, but I had a good time watching it, much more so than I did X-Men Origins Wolverine and Apocalypse. I liked that it was simple and efficient, and careful attention was placed on Sophie Turner as Phoenix. Plus, I was all in on that introductory scene as Jon mentioned being one of the better moments in the movie because it actually showed the X-Men working as a team for once. Love the show, please keep it going.
