Based on Camp’s viral YouTube videos from over a decade ago — with Jenny Slate returning to voice Marcel and co-write the screenplay — Marcel the Shell is probably the most millennial movie we’ve seen lately, but apparently no one else caught it on the big screen this summer based on the box office tally. But before we close out the season, let’s discuss your divorced uncle’s favorite kids’ film.

Synopsis for Marcel the Shell with Shoes On

TINY SHELL. BIG SCREEN. Marcel is an adorable one-inch-tall shell who ekes out a colorful existence with his grandmother Connie and their pet lint, Alan. Once part of a sprawling community of shells, they now live alone as the sole survivors of a mysterious tragedy. But when a documentary filmmaker discovers them amongst the clutter of his Airbnb, the short film he posts online brings Marcel millions of passionate fans, as well as unprecedented dangers and a new hope at finding his long-lost family. [Source: Letterboxd]
